The focus in the Prescription Drug Insight & Awareness course is on deep-rooted characteristics as this plays into low self-esteem and other psychological vulnerabilities that can lead to use and possibly addiction. Advanced Behavioral Rehabilitation takes a curative approach by helping individuals understand their use may be for the purpose of managing their psychological sufferings. 

Agenda topics include Distorted Thinking, Drug Dependence and Drug Abuse, Triggers and Behaviors, Legal Issues, and more. In some cases it is recommended to add some number of Group Therapy sessions to increase and/or maintain insight and awareness. In some cases it is recommended to add a DUI Driving Simulation.

About the instructor

Pat Kearney

I graduated from the University of Detroit Mercy with a Masters of Art in Addiction Counseling. I have a Bachelor of Science Degree, also from University of Detroit Mercy, in Addiction Studies. I have worked closely with the criminal justice system for the past 19 years. When I first started out I worked with court referred clients in an Outpatient Clinic. I have been able to diversify and worked in the prison system, where I started working with women in prison, and transferred to the RTP Program for 3 years. I Co-facilitated Domestic Violence and Substance Abuse Groups at Dickerson Facility in Hamtramck. I also facilitated a court referred Domestic Violence Group for 4 years. I have worked in Outpatient mental health and substance abuse clinics. I currently facilitate a Women’s Specialty Group for women in recovery from substance abuse at an Outpatient facility. I have been with Advanced Behavioral Health for the past 5 years and have facilitated groups that are focused on raising awareness and insight into the specific issues related to Substance Abuse, Retail Fraud and Anger Management.
